In the ICSI process, a tiny needle, called a micropipette, is used to inject a single sperm into the center of the egg. With either traditional IVF or ICSI, once fertilization occurs, the fertilized egg ( now called an embryo) grows in a laboratory for 1 to 5 days before it is transferred to the woman’s uterus.
Invitro Maturation of Oocytes
Immature oocytes are cultured for a day for IVM and fertilized after maturation. Because it takes a day for maturation of oocytes, ICSI will be done after maturation of oocytes either late on the day of OPU or on the next day of OPU. The clinical pregnancy rate and implantation rate were comparable in IVM and conventional IVF cycles.
